Date Night- couples cooking class.

After so many years together, date night options have become very limited. Movies are out b/c I’ll probably fall asleep within thirty minutes (after 8:30pm, I can’t function). Bar hopping? We both don’t drink so that just doesn’t make any sense. Clubbing? NOT. A. CHANCE. I wouldn’t mind a shopping date, but he’s not as patient waiting around as he used to be (and I thought that would NEVER change).

But we haven’t given up hope yet, there are always dinner dates. However once we get there, then what?! The most exciting part of a dinner date is probably perusing the menu. Once we order, it becomes a little boring. Stealing glances? At this point in the relationship, that’s just weird.

Dinner date conversations have dwindled down to what’s happening at work or with the kids. Let’s be real, there’s nothing more that we would need to learn about each other. And anything exciting that would generally happen to a couple… already happened to us. Bought the home of our dreams. Check. Got two beautiful kids. Check. So it’s not like we can go on and on about the criteria of our dream home or what sex we would prefer our first newborn.  I guess we can converse about our current home renovations?! I know, it seems pretty hopeless right?

Not so fast. Because I’m soooo clever, I thought of the perfect date night idea (even for old couples like us!). I surprised the hubs with a couple’s date night cooking class!

cooking classOur date night was magnificent! We cooked and chit-chatted with four other couples. No conversation strain here! Made the most delicious dishes: red wine braised duck legs, spinach salad, roast duck breasts, roasted root vegetables, pan seared fois gras, and molten chocolate (I died).

Not only was the food and company amazing, the school itself was a condo located in an industrial part of the city. We were very inspired by the space. Every wall was either covered entirely with art or bookshelves. The use of vertical spaces was very impressive. Mark, our instructor, was awesome. He built his own copper hanging pot rack, which was probably the highlight of the kitchen. And guess what? We are stealing that idea for our kitchen.

The class started at 7pm and ended a little after 11pm.  If you are in the Boston area, check out ArtEpicure cooking classes. It’s well worth the money and experience!

    Such a good idea!! We struggle for ideas also other than the usual movies and dinner. No kids or house so we can still discuss those things until his attention wanes closer to any screen with a sport on it (I’m oh so patient…). But I love to cook and he is a bit of a novice so this would be tons of fun. Will have to search for it in Vancouver. Great post and photos as always! X

  7. I love the idea of going to a cooking class! I used to drag my husband to ballroom classes (couldn’t believe he went) and that was a lot of fun!

  11. The cooking class looks like so much fun! My hubs and I definitely want to do one of these classes when we move to the next city .I think it will be a great way to have fun and meet new people. We were in your shoes last year. We were stuck in a rut with our date nights so I decided to start the ABC Date night challenge. Each time we went out, we had to choose a date based on the letter of the alphabet. It was pretty creative way to reconnect. We haven’t quite made it through the alphabet yet due to lack of time but it sure is something fun to look forward to. Check out some of our dates on my blog.
