Live Clean { baby wash }

One of the most frustrating challenge that we were faced as new parents was dealing with Zoey’s extremely sensitive skin. Which came as a surprised as I never thought twice about the possibility of having to deal with this problem.

I was well prepared before she was born. Bought a typical baby body wash and never looked back. Never thought twice. Until one day when we were finally ready to bathe her. Her skin had an extreme reaction to the wash. There was some guilt felt.  How did we do this to our baby? No one teaches you to be parents, unfortunately for the most part it’s trial and error.

The most frustrating part of all was that it took forever for her skin to heal and one healing after the other, we kept ‘testing’ different baby washes with just a tiny area of her body. Each one causing the same reaction.

Pediatricians and Dermatologists all had their different diagnoses, which made it even more frustrating that their theories contradicted one another. We also changed her detergent so we can rule that out.

One day I was recommended Live Clean by a mommy friend. It was made w/ purified water and organic botanicals. Most importantly, it was SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) free, the ingredient which we found common in all the baby washes that we’ve tried. Upon some research, SLS may cause skin irritation.

At this point we had nothing to lose, and after trying 4 different baby washes Live Clean sounded promising. Still extremely cautious, initially just washing her hair with it. Seemed fine. (!) Then we tried her bum. Seemed fine. (!!) Til this day we use Live Clean for all her baths. We are still very careful not to put it directly on other parts of her body (legs, stomach, arms) but since using the product she has not had a reaction like before.

We also use the baby lotion which smells fresh and light of chamomile and lavender scents.

A plus is their great packaging- clean, modern, simple.

I’ve also been recommended to use California baby (available at Target) which I hear was awesome but can’t testify b/c I haven’t tried it.  California baby is more expensive at $11 for an 8.5oz bottle vs. Live Clean at $15 for a 25oz bottle.

I’ve only found Live Clean at Walgreens online and currently they are running a buy 1 get 1 free for both the 25oz lotion and wash which comes out to be just $7.50/bottle (free shipping at $25). I believe for the promotion, you can buy 1 wash and 1 lotion and still get the deal instead of having to buy 2 washes and / or 2 lotions. To try Live Clean, go here. Til next post, Kellie

  1. Hmm, I may have to check out Live Clean. We have only used California Baby on our little one, but we do the unscented. So far it seems to be pretty gentle and mild, and we’ve had no problems. It seems pricy upfront, but you only use a small amount at a time and it seems to last for quite a while. I don’t bathe her every day though, but the same bottle is with us and she’s 5 1/2 mos.!

  2. Good to know, we got some as a gift. And have yet to use it. I thought the lotion smelled a little strong. But maybe I’m wrong

  3. We had the same problem with my daughter. We tried California Baby but I wasn’t a big fan and it seemed to dry her skin out more.
    I ended up using Organic Aveeno which doesn’t smell pleasant and is expensive, but it works. I might have to give this one a try!

  4. Hi Kellie – how’d ya find me?

    We LOVE California Baby. We got it as a gift and used it all up and loved it, but it’s so expensive!

    We’ve been using Burt’s Bees.

  5. We’ve avoided anything scented since day one, wipes, lotions, any of it. It just seems like one more thing that could upset the balance. I wish I’d heard of Live Clean before, I would have definitely tried it.

  6. I have pre-purchased California Baby products for our little guy when he gets here after hearing good things about it. We will see how it goes. I do not want to use regular washes because of all of the chemicals as well as the smell, which I cannot stand. If California Baby does not work for us I will try Live Clean.
