Vision For Our New Living Space!

Last weekend, we did something MAJOR! We sold EVERYTHING in our living room!! Yep, if you didn’t know that we had this great master plan to completely redesign our space, you would think that one of us has gone CRAZY. And it would most likely be ME.

It was a bittersweet moment for my husband b/c we finally sold the set of couch that he custom built. With its super clean lines and modern appeal, it was very well built and sturdy. However, it was time for us to move on as our styles have changed. Can’t move forward until you let go. At least the couple who bought our furniture seemed very grateful so I’m sure that they will enjoy them for yrs to come.

This is such an awesome moment. This opportunity… to turn a space into our stylish haven that we’ve (I) always dreamed of. For sure this space will combine what my husband favors (mid-century modern style) and my current (almost unhealthy) obsession with all things PARISIAN!

Below is my vision (& the husband’s, but mostly mine…/ happy wife, happy life!) of what I want our space to become. Most images gathered from my pinterest board, Abode.

Months ago, on a whim, I bought this GORGEOUS provincial couch, which will be the main piece in our living room. It needs some work, the husband’s going to reupholster it to a velvet gray but it’s gonna look soo awesome when finished! The look & feel of our couch is pretty similar to the one as seen in the image above.

As for the decorative pillows, I will most likely make them. I def want 2 HUGE faux fur ones and ‘maybe’ 2 smaller ones w/ ‘love notes’ prints. Not sure how difficult it will be to find such fabric. What do you think of my choices?

Above, couch w/ a faux fur decorative pillow. Nice, no?

Another GREAT room with a BEAUTIFUL Parisian style couch as the main piece. LOVE how the yellow velvet color pops in an all white room.

Behind our provincial chair will be a console. This has always been our vision. However, seeing the image above gave us the excellent idea to also make it function as an extra workspace. Console + workspace = cleverness!

We already have these mid-century modern rockers. They will be used as our side chairs in place of a ‘love seat’.

I’m soooo having faux fur throws for the side chairs!

Another example of how great these faux fur throws look over the mid-century modern chairs.

I immediately thought of IKEA.  Ah – the go to places for many things. I remember seeing these sheepskin rugs there. I’m sure they’ll make great options for the faux fur throws. Since they are actually rugs, they will have the non slip bottom which would be perfect over the plastic molded chairs.

Great minds think alike. Last night my husband mentioned that he wanted a tufted coffee table. I was actually dying to tell him about this picture (above) that I saw. What a great idea- a storage ottoman as a coffee table! This also means that we would have to use decorative trays to put things on which turns out perfect b/c I’m also quite obsessed w/ them!

Another ottoman look for the coffee table. I like that this one looks sleeker and more stylish, however, it doesn’t come w/ storage space.

White ottoman coffee table. Not sure if this is the style that we’re looking for. It looks a little bit bulky.

Decorative trays for the coffee table! They will be filled w/ my home decor books and flower, flowers, and more flowers!

I NEED a cool looking clock for our space! Actually, I just bought one earlier today! Couldn’t help myself- I’m sure the husband will LOVE it as much as I do.

Another cool clock!

And lastly but NOT least, is a great wall adorned w/ fabulous artworks! We will most likely have a few of these walls.

What do you think of my vision for our new living area? Can’t wait to share the finished look.

I hope that you were also able to gather some ideas for your space too.

Live life stylishly and creatively!

‘Til next post, Kellie.

  1. An ottoman coffee table is a great idea in terms of safety for your little one as well…you will have soft corners instead of pointy ones! 🙂

  4. Ottoman coffee tables are amazing!!! I have 2 small ones with a small table in the center! They’re triple threat – for placing, for seating and for storing. I say go for the ottoman, just have either glass or a huge tray over it.

I’d wish you luck but you don’t need it. I know you’ll design your space in a grand Kellie fashion 😉

  6. Great ideas here! I also love all things French – have for years! Great magazines for inspiration are Maison Cote Sud, Maison Cote Est, Maison Cote Oeust – you might like them as much as I do.

      1. Ahhh, that sounds amazing! I was wondering how you convinced your husband to go with pink, but I didn’t want to assume he wouldn’t be into it! 😉

  9. I have 2 of the sheepskin. I purchased 3 from Ikea a few months ago for a client session. The client couldn’t part with it and she insisted in purchasing 1 of the 3. I’m in the service Business and a Happy Client is a returning client. I love all the images in this post…. inspiring. Have a bless day…
