Ways To Help Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

I received a call tonight from my sister who lives in NYC informing me that the babies in Staten Island are in need of baby formulas and diapers. As a first time mommy, it broke my heart and can’t ever imagine my Zoey not having clean diapers or enough to eat. I’m doing my part (to the best of my ability) to make sure that the babies receive whatever they need through this tough time and am just so grateful that I’m in a position to be able to help.

New York and its neighboring states are suffering from the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy. Please help in any way that you can, whether big or small will be greatly appreciated.

And here’s a link that gives you 12 ways to help hurricane Sandy relief efforts. I’ve listed some below:

The Salvation Army is aiding those in crisis with hot meals, water, and shelter. To send a $10 donation via text message, you can text the word STORM to 80888, and confirm the donation with the word, “Yes.” They are also accepting used clothing and furniture donations to local Salvation Army locations (via NBC News).

The American Red Cross is offering shelter, clothing, supplies, food and blood to Hurricane Sandy victims. To donate $10 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, text the word REDCROSS to 90999 or you can call 800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). To donate blood, visit the Red Cross website (via NBC News).

The Humane Society is leading pet search and rescue efforts. To support their initiatives, click here.

Let’s UNITE.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims.

  1. Thank you so much for helping out. We’re here on Long Island and are doing our best to help our neighbors but so many people still without power, gas, heat, hot water, food and transportation – govt slow to respond.

Since we lost power for a couple of days, I never really knew the horrible devastation that it caused, until we got our power back. I’ve been wondering of ways of how I can help. Here’s an awesome blog that gives some information and what we can do.
    Thanks Le Zoe Musings!!

  3. Every time I see pictures of the devastation that this hurricane caused brings me to tears. This hurricane hit so close to home. We were fortunate enough not to have any damage, the only thing we lost was our power for a couple of days. I’m definitely reblogging this!

  4. A lot of churches in Brooklyn and Staten Island are accepting donations. Feminine supplies, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc are needed. It will also be getting very cold- blankets, jackets, sweatshirts, sweatpants, shoes make a great donation. Many NYC Public Schools will be starting collections of goods tomorrow. My area was not affected but I have many friends in Staten Island and Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn that have lost everything.

  6. Reblogged this on On My Front Porch. Thanks for doing all you can to help those in need. I watched the TV back here in the UK as Hurricane Sandy approached and my heart goes out to all those families who have lost people and to those who have lost everything due to this horrendous hurricane.
