A few weeks ago, my mother-in-law sent some traditional New Year treats. I look forward to these goodies every Chinese New Year because it’s only during this time that you’ll typically get to enjoy these specialties.
Wrapped in banana leaves and adorned with festive New Year paper.
This “cookie” log is made of sticky rice on the outside and filled with mung beans, pork, and black beans. Super compacted and rolled in banana leaves then steamed until done. These are eaten warm as is, however, I prefer them pan seared.
Red envelopes stuffed with money are usually given to loved ones at New Yrs as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.
This is another type of specialty usually made of flour (instead of sticky rice) and are typically filled with beans, coconut, or meat.
Isn’t interesting learning about different cultures?
Lovely.

It looks interesting! A little heavier than the normal treats we have for CNY.
