My Neighborhood

They say when you meet ‘the one’, you’ll know. That was exactly what happened to us when we were searching for our first home together as a married couple. We both knew what we wanted and we didn’t want new construction, cookie cutter type of deal. We were looking for something that had charm, history, and breathtaking architectural details. Basically, a lot of characteristics that new homes lack- in our opinion.

When we first walked onto the streets of our neighborhood while still in the home-searching phase, I told my husband, “This is it!” A month or two later, we saw a listing. Fate I say. Although it needed a ton of work, it was perfect in every way possible. The location, the feel, the nearby parks, and the cute cafes. Everything was aligned. After climbing several hurdles, we finally got our dream home. And if you’ve been following my blog since then, that was when my home renovation journey began as I’ve documented the projects here.

What I love so much about our neighborhood is that it reminds me of Europe, especially Paris. This is because most brownstones built in the 1800’s  were that of the Queen Ann, Italianate, and Second French Empire architectural styles. They were influenced by British architects. Boston is often called “the most European of the U.S. cities.”

So here’s a little personal tour of my stunning neighborhood which I feel looks so much better in person!

My husband and I enjoy walking around the neighborhood to see how our neighbors decorate their window planters and front yard. We are just so nosy.

For us, one of the perks of living in the city is that there are parks right in front of our home. Which means we can take advantage of all the green grass without ever having to mow the lawn! And once we finish building our roof decks, we’ll have sweeping city views where we can also enjoy all the holiday fireworks.

Walk another 5 mins. and you’ll be at the harbor where you can take the ferry to downtown. Isn’t life such a bliss?!

  2. What a lovely neighbourhood, and you take very beautiful pictures. It’s great to see another part of the country, and it is indeed very reminiscent of Europe – a little taste of home for me.

  5. Beautiful and stunning neighbourhood and you are right, such a European feel to it! I think you and your wee family have fallen on your feet in just the perfect location. It looks so cosmopolitan and I love your photos. As a gardener, I loved the pictures of window boxes and porches…thank you. Also, thank you for stopping by my blog!   18. You live in such a beautiful area! Definitely something you wouldn’t find here in the UK (the gorgeous brownstones I mean). I agree, a house definitely has to have character and charm. I’m sucker for the old victorian style with the black and white exterior and the wooden beams interior. I love it!
