If you’ve ever lived in a home while it’s being renovated; I completely feel your pain. In a way, you sort of lose your identity. I’m constantly surrounded by clutter and disorganization when deep down I’m the type of person who’s happiest when everything’s put in its place. I love the minimalistic, clean look and yet it’s very hard to achieve that in daily life with some of our spaces still under renovation.
If you’ve been following my home renovation journey, you’d probably know that things are moving slowly but surely. I’m happy to share that my home office makeover is complete! The office is connected directly to my room and used to be Axel’s nursery. Since he has moved on with his life and graduated to big sister’s room; it only made sense that we convert his nursery into our office.
Our house has high ceilings which translate to vertical spaces that need to be maximized as much as possible. The challenge is creating a functional space without compromising your personal style. Here’s how I did just that with one of the walls in my office.
This space defines me in every single way. It’s boutique-like and everything is displayed nice and neat. And just like a boutique, the goal is to achieve that Eureka moment when discovering hidden unexpected gems. You’ll see how I’ve implemented creative unconventional ways of putting some things to use. There are also a few DIY projects that can be easily replicated and incorporated into any space.
Since my home office is an all white room (not surprisingly), storing and displaying items in an open space concept gives it just enough pop of color. Any more than this would make me dizzy.
There are two things that I always have in my magic tool box. These are gold and white spray paint cans. They can transform anything from drab to fab! I wasn’t feeling the clay pot so I gave it a makeover.
One of the most popular posts that I’ve ever written was Organizing with Tiffany where I used Tiffany shopping bags as organizational compartments. You can read the original post HERE. I’ve been waiting forever to recreate this in some way, shape, or form. Now that I have my new home office, the time is now!
These shopping bags double as little fashionable storage ‘containers’ for your pencils, pens, notepads, cards, etc. If the bag is too deep, first stuff some tissue paper at the bottom of the bag before filling it up with office goodies. A no fail way to see how the bags would look on your wall is to use painter’s tape to temporarily hold them in place. It will not damage the wall or your precious shopping bags. Once you’re committed, use push pins to adhere the bags to the wall. What a fabulous way to combine style and organization! The perfect excuse for more shopping, no?
Instead of using live plants, I placed dried hydrangeas in this hanging plant/candle holder. Dried hydrangeas usually keep their shape and color pretty well so they look ‘fresh’ from afar.
Btw, the gold telephone is actually a piggy bank. Just one of those cool things that you can find at Home Goods.
Here’s one of my favorite little home decor tips using old magazines and/or catalogs. Tear out your favorite ad campaign or picture and use as a background lining . It’ll show through like a piece of art. You can also do this with wallpaper remnants (I used Graham & Brown in Gold Desire for the top cube), gift wrapping paper, etc.
Two huge windows mean an abundant of natural light flowing in. Another thing to love about my home office!
My major weaknesses are adorable petite journals and books. Don’t judge a book by its cover? Sorry, that’s not me.
Below, you’ll find all of my little decor tips and tricks in one place. Because a picture is worth a thousand words.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this vertical space organization post and had that Eureka moment while reading about all the little unexpected ways of organizing, storing, and displaying office related items. Please share your favorite piece about this post in the comment section. Would love to hear your thoughts!
