Our bathroom vanity makeover all started with a $40 thrift store hutch. My husband transformed the top portion into a tea cabinet for our dining room (as seen below).

I won’t go into details about the Tea Space as you may already read the post. If you haven’t, you can read it HERE. OMG, Axel was a peanut at only five months old at the time!

The bottom portion of the hutch remained in storage for about one year after we completed the Tea Space. During this time, the hubs continued to work on one of our bathrooms. He completely demolished it, added heated marble floors, installed a floor to ceiling marble wall on one side, and applied wallpaper to the other.  Granted, he did have some help from family members (we are so grateful) but ultimately did most of the work by himself.

My husband is a rare breed. He’s a perfectionist in every single way and the type of person who knows how to do everything. It’s a little scary.

Currently, the bathroom is 95% finished with a clawfoot tub, newly installed toilet, and a ‘new’ vanity.  Below’s where we planned for the bathroom vanity.

Our main bathroom is unfortunately tiny. The space is very narrow so we didn’t have much room to play with. Decorating and planning out a small space is always challenging because you don’t want to crowd the space and make it feel even smaller.

Soo…going back to the $40 hutch. The bottom portion was magically converted into our bathroom vanity! The hubs removed the extra level of drawers and cut out the back to make it less deep. We wanted to maximize our tiny bathroom with pieces that weren’t so bulky.

After basically rebuilding the vanity, he installed the sink, brass faucet, and made a custom marble backsplash to protect the wallpapered wall. Don’t ask me how the man did it. I’m guessing that his background in engineering played some part in all the madness.

Finding a sink that was going to fit on top of our narrow bathroom vanity was not easy. The specifications had to be perfect- sleek, minimal-appeal, not too high or deep.

As far as a decorating theme, we had something in mind- that was to bring the outdoors in. Lots of natural light, indoor plants, and finding a wallpaper that reminded us of a garden.  The one that we chose was absolutely perfect. It was a white washable (and paintable) vinyl type called Large Damask by Graham and Brown (c/o). The vinyl material made it ideal and the flowery pattern added a vintage elegance feel to the space. I love using acrylic trays and containers for organizing and displaying items. They have the look of glass but don’t  break which is great when you have two toddlers in the house.

The window shutters are my dream. We salvaged them from an old house that we visited last year. Somehow, it fits our window almost perfectly. The hubs had do some minor adjustments but otherwise, they fit like a glove.

I think we did a great job with the bathroom considering how tiny it is. White, light, airy and everything feels so harmonious. I will share the rest of this space on a later post when it’s 100% complete. You will die over our clawfoot tub!
