New Beginnings (organizing life and salad preps)

A few months ago, I decided to resign from my role as Art Director at J.Jill. This wasn’t any ordinary job, it was the job of my dreams. However, after over a year of having to deal with a three hour daily commute, it wasn’t sustainable. My days were literally 7:30am-6:45pm Monday through Friday. With two young ones, mornings were hectic and nights were exhausting (to say the least). Although I was heartbroken and so conflicted about the decision, I knew that in order to change my quality of life (for myself and family), there was no other choice.

I left without a career plan. Meaning, I didn’t have my next job lined up. Fortunately, I was in the position where I could make that decision and take it slow for the next three months. I enjoyed the slower pace of life. Waking up without the stress of getting my entire family ready in thirty insane minutes. But in the back of my mind, I was worried about never finding a role that would be as ideal again. Did I make the right decision? If I didn’t, it was too late.

What kept me going was the belief that everything always happen for a reason. You can’t open the next set of doors unless you close the last. I had to believe in this universal message because I didn’t have any other option. I waited for the stars and moon to align and finally it did! As it always does.

2018 didn’t disappoint and I landed a new position! This time as Art Director at Wayfair which feels like even more of a dream role because I am beyond obsessed with home space. This job will allow me to have a better work/life balance. It’s in the heart of the city and my commute is just a few train stops away!

I’m trying to organize my life as a working mom. I’ve decided to prep a week’s worth of lunch for me and my husband in advance. I searched for salad recipes on Pinterest and came up with four different ones (you may have seen this on Insta stories if you follow my Instagram!). Zoey, my six year old helped curate the recipes. I made way more than I needed for a week’s worth of lunch but it’ll be nice to have extras for dinners too! Hopefully, I can keep this up moving forward.

Four salads: 1. Caesar 2. Prosciutto with melon + pear 3. Roasted veggies + quinoa 4. Salmon with edamame + tangerines

Nothing in life comes easy. Decisions, sacrifices, commitments- they’re always evolving depending on certain circumstances. Be patient. Open yourself up to the universe and it will reciprocate in ways you’ve never imagined. I am so looking forward to my next career journey. I hope you’ll find your next journey too- whatever it may be.

Live in the moment and trust in what’s meant to be.

What a brave, courageous thing to actually step down from a position with no other position immediately on the horizon. You’re inspiring so many people by sharing this experience-myself included! I’m a Wayfair super-fan! Congratulations!
