Desk Makeover

One of the things that my husband and I enjoy doing is finding used furniture and repurposing them into wonderful functional pieces. Thanks to our humble beginnings growing up for introducing us to thrift stores! About 2 yrs ago, I found this vintage sewing machine cabinet and immediately envisioned it to be my future work desk. I bought it for only $20!! We took out the actual machine and replaced it with a custom made wood piece which fits perfectly in the now empty space. Next, we gave it a white paint job (benjamin moore decorators white 04) and the thing was as good as new! The bonus? The front part of the cabinet opens up and it has a little storage space for pens, stickies, etc.

Since it’s been a while, I couldn’t find the before picture of the desk that I took. A little web searching and I saw the same exact one on elkephant

BEFORE AFTER

I hope this post will inspire you to be creative and create something new from something old. I’ll surely share more diy posts as we work on renovating our new home.

Have you done any repurposing lately? Please share!

Have a great weekend.

  1. This project (and your blog) is so inspiring! I can’t wait to move into my house and make it feel like a home. I was a little skeptical about my college student budget, but I think I can make it work now πŸ™‚

  2. I’m currently looking at renting my first ever flat and was worrying about not having any furniture but this post makes it a bit seem like a bit of an adventure! I adore that glass dove! Stephie from Tea in Your Twenties x

  3. I love repurposing old stuff! I got this old pillow with a board on top so that you can use the laptop in bed without overheating it… It was 2€ from the flea market and I can’t wait to adapt the design to a more modern look and feel!!!
