One of the things that my husband and I enjoy doing is finding used furniture and repurposing them into wonderful functional pieces. Thanks to our humble beginnings growing up for introducing us to thrift stores! About 2 yrs ago, I found this vintage sewing machine cabinet and immediately envisioned it to be my future work desk. I bought it for only $20!! We took out the actual machine and replaced it with a custom made wood piece which fits perfectly in the now empty space. Next, we gave it a white paint job (benjamin moore decorators white 04) and the thing was as good as new! The bonus? The front part of the cabinet opens up and it has a little storage space for pens, stickies, etc.
Since it’s been a while, I couldn’t find the before picture of the desk that I took. A little web searching and I saw the same exact one on elkephant…
My business cards are placed in a thrifted dove ashtray that I bought for less than 2 bucks. I hope this post will inspire you to be creative and create something new from something old. I’ll surely share more diy posts as we work on renovating our new home.
Have you done any repurposing lately? Please share!
Have a great weekend.
Hello! I have the exact same style of sewing table and I’m looking into transforming it into a work desk like yours, but the only dilemma was how did you fill in the space where the actual sewing machine went?
Thanks!

How do you keep the left side from being too heavy and tipping over?

Hi- The desk is really sturdy so nothing additional required to prevent it from tipping over!

I love repurposing old stuff! I got this old pillow with a board on top so that you can use the laptop in bed without overheating it… It was 2€ from the flea market and I can’t wait to adapt the design to a more modern look and feel!!!
