Gnocchi alla Sorrentina with Ragu Pasta Sauce

I feel your pain. Dinnertime can be a challenge. Especially with two young ones. What to cook? Will they eat it? Do I need to plan an extra meal for them…just in case? I ask myself this daily since we cook literally Every. Single. Night.

One thing is for sure- my kids loveeee pasta or anything that looks like it topped with a tomato sauce. Most of the time when I make a pasta meal, it’s usually a ravioli variety (store bought obviously!) with a Ragu tomato sauce. You can’t go wrong with Ragu!

Today, I’m sharing this really simple recipe, Gnocchi alla Sorrentina, that my kids love. Hopefully, they’ll love it enough to share it someday with their young ones too.

This is my version of Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. It’s not made from scratch, there are some variations and it’s the quick version for us modern moms.

Steps 1. Julienne and then sautee six mini sweet peppers in extra virgin olive oil until they are soft 2. Add one cup of Ragu Pasta sauce and let simmer for about 5 minutes 3. Add one cup of ready-made gnocchi, allow to simmer for 5-8 minutes 4. Stir in one fresh mozzarella (chopped in small chunks) and 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese 5. Allow to simmer for another 5 minutes 6. Serve hot with grated parmesan cheese and chopped basil for garnish

You may not know this but the story behind Ragu is pretty cool. When Assunta Cantisano came from Italy to America, she carried along with her her family’s tomato sauce recipe. Assunta and her family started to sell the sauce from the front porch of their house in Rochester, NY. Soon, Ragu was born.

  1. My family would die without Ragu! But it HAS to be the smooth, organic variety!!!! And OMG dinner time at our house is just as hectic!! Two little ones means everyone’s eating something different at different times. Glad to know I’m not the only one crossing my fingers and praying that the kids will eat what’s for dinner tonight. 😉 Spaghetti is a lifesaver! Thanks for sharing!!! xxoo
