Why do we pay so much for things we can make for just a few bucks? A couple of nights ago, while Zoey was asleep and the husband was busy working, I was bored out of my mind (!) and craved for something easy & creative to do.
I decided to make some personal gold monogram mugs. This was like literally 10pm at night. Yes, sometimes I come across as a little crazy! But if you knew how easy and fast this project was, I’m actually not that crazy.
Don’t these look as good as store bought (or better)?! I made one w/ my initial, one w/ the “&” sign, and the 3rd w/ my husband’s initial. I also thought about making one for Zoey but considering that she’s only 1 yr old, that would be silly.
This project took me about 20 mins, if even that (not including drying and baking time). Marker set me back $4, everything else I already owned.
1. Using double sided tape, tape the craft letter onto the mug
2. With the glass paint marker (they come in all colors!), outline the letter
3. Carefully remove the letter. Leave as an outline (and be done!) or fill in the outlined space w/ the marker, which was what I did for the “&” sign.
4. Let dry for 4 hrs. In my case, I let dry overnight.
5. Bake at 325 for 40 mins. (This step depends on the type of marker you use so check the instructions).
You can also write your own message! I wrote this on the other side of the mug.
The great thing about this project is that if you don’t like the way it turned out, you can wipe off what you wrote and start over. It hasn’t set unless dried and baked.
Great gift ideas, especially for that newlywed couple!
Dahlias from our garden are still flourishing.
And in case you’re curious, here’s what’s happening on my nails plus some gold glitz on the ring finga.
‘Til next post, Kellie.
SO cute! Where did you get your craft letters? Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kellie! Thanks for sharing this easy do-it-yourself personalized mug. Since I’m also a mom (and a homeschooling mom at that), I have a thing for activities that my kids and I can do together. Fun activities done together are the special moments our children take with them as they grow older. 🙂 I’m blessed to have an artist like you follow my Organic Coffee blog. Thank you and to God be all the glory! I look forward to seeing more of your works and reading more of your musings. May God bless you and your wonderful family! 🙂

Thanks for the great idea! I’m planning on making these to put in the welcome bags for out of town guests coming to my daughter’s wedding! I found white mugs online for 2.00 each. Question- should I use a stoneware mug or a porcelain mug, or does it even matter? Thanks again!

Hi Elise- I’m not sure whether stoneware or porcelain is better. I think what’s important is that you should make sure that the type of mug you buy can be baked. Good luck! Best, Kellie
